The Constitution of Brighton International Film Society


1. Name
The Society shall be known as the Brighton International Film Society, referred to here as The Society.

2. Objects
The object of The Society is to advance the education of the public in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the arts, particularly the art of film and allied visual techniques. In furtherance of the foregoing object, but not further or otherwise, the society shall have the power to promote the study and appreciation of films by means of lectures, discussions and exhibitions.

3. Membership
The membership of The Society is open to anyone over the age of sixteen on payment of the current fee and at the discretion of the Committee. Membership of The Society does not overrule the BBFC viewing restrictions. Membership of The Society shall entitle the holder to attendance at all film shows and other meetings, subject to seating capacity.

4. The Management
A Committee of at least 5 Members and no more than 12 shall run the Society. The committee shall be elected at the Annual General meeting and hold office until their successors are elected at the next AGM.


Notes: The Society has an agreed manifesto which should be freely available to all members. Membership will be restricted by the seating capacity of the post-screening venue. Membership will be restricted in the first year to 60. Membership is currently available for the year March 2005 - February 2006 Non-members can attend the post screening discussions once for a fee of £5.00 if there are spare places in the post screening venue.
