Announcement

20 April 2007.

Dear Friends,

I am very happy to recap that BIFS that began on 2 March 2005 completed its second year on 31 March 2007 with a glorious two-year programme, providing quality films and discussion with a clear focus on World Cinema.

Our work in spite of obvious hardships and difficulties resulted in not only awards and commendations but also a reputation for bringing great films from different parts of the world with discussions that enhanced our appreciation of the films. But the non-availability of a good regular venue and financially non-viable alternatives has made us rethink and we are exploring other possibilities for the future. Due to extraneous reasons we are unable to guarantee a regular membership-backed programme until we come across a practical solution without compromising on the quality of our screenings and aims of the organisation.

However, this does not mean to say we are going to disappear from the scene! To all those who have supported us and loved our events and believed in our work, we want to say that we will continue our efforts in two ways.

Our main focus will continue to be on bringing to you the best of World Cinema with a thought-provoking post-film discussion with an invited guest speaker. We plan to do this, hopefully, on a quarterly basis with the support of Duke of York’s.

On the other hand, we will continue to meet monthly but on a more informal basis as ‘Friends of BIFS’. We will co-ordinate these events that emphasise the collective experience of watching a film and chatting about it after.

Thank you for your support the last two years. We hope you will support us in the future too by joining our mailing list and participating in our events. Visit us at www.bifs.org.uk for future announcements.

Thank you,
Geetha J. (Dr Geetha Jayaraman)
